The LETWELL Programme
LETWELL is the professional development programme for letting agents delivered via a partnership between Landlord Accreditation Scotland (LAS) and the CIH Housing Academy (CIH) and leads to the SCQF Level 6 CIH Certificate in letting and managing residential property.
Who is LETWELL for?
LETWELL is for anyone working in, or looking to work in, a letting agency, whether you need to be recognised for letting agent registration purposes or simply want the qualification for your career.
It’s built around Scottish Government regulation of letting agents, so it maps directly to the training requirements for registered agency staff, while also giving you a professional qualification that carries real weight as you progress in the sector.

How does LETWELL work?
Five training courses, each delivered as three 90-minute live online sessions over three consecutive days. The full programme runs over approximately five months, with five written assignments along the way. No exam.
Booking and payments
Booking onto Course 1 confirms your place on all five courses. We handle the bookings for Courses 2-5 on your behalf.

When can I take part?
LETWELL runs annually from the start of the year. The 2027 programme blends in-person and live online delivery:
- Five compulsory courses. Delivered live online, 2.30 – 4 pm over three consecutive days per course. Full attendance is required to complete the programme.
- One optional in-person session. At the very start of the programme, in Edinburgh or Glasgow. It’s not compulsory but strongly recommended: this is where learners build peer connections and tutor relationships that support them through the rest of the programme.

How much does LETWELL cost?
The best way to get the best price for LETWELL is to make sure your agency is LAS Accredited. Accreditation is charged annually on a sliding scale based on the number of properties you manage, and for every agency, the saving on LETWELL alone more than covers the fee.
For example: on the pay as you go rate, an Accredited agent pays £990 for the training courses, against £1,914 at full price. That’s a saving of £924, comfortably ahead of even the highest accreditation fee £474 for 501 + properties.
Annual accreditation fee (including VAT):
- 50 properties or under: £90
- 51 to 150 properties: £198
- 151 to 500 properties: £402
- 501 properties or more: £474

Pay in full means paying for all five courses upfront. Pay as you go means paying for Course 1 upfront, then Courses 2 and 3 together, then Courses 4 and 5 together.
Training fees are paid directly to Landlord Accreditation Scotland and include VAT.
The qualification itself is registered separately with the CIH Housing Academy, who invoice you directly. This fee is £685, with no VAT, and is due before the course starts. This fee is in addition to the training course price (paid to LAS).
SAL Letting Agent Members must confirm their membership number when booking. If paying as you go, membership must be valid at each payment.
All fees are payable in advance. Your place is only secured once payment has been received.

Letting residential
property

- Common tenancy types in Scotland.
- Comparisons of different types of tenancy agreements.

- Procedures for advertising property and arranging viewings.

Ending tenancies of residential property

- The process required when a tenant legally ends the tenancy.
- Legislation on notice requirements.
- The process required to end tenancies including serving legal notices to end tenancies.
- The stages in applying to court for possession.
How landlords can avoid actions for harassment and illegal eviction.
Course 4
Property standards for residential properties
Topics covered:
- Health and safety legislation for property that is let.
- The landlord’s repair and maintenance obligations.
- Tenants’ obligations to the repair and upkeep of the property.
- Undertaking routine inspection and maintenance.
- What defines an HMO.
- The additional health and safety and repair requirements that apply to HMOs.
The scheme of HMO licensing in Scotland.
Course 5
Tenancy management for residential properties
Topics covered:
- Reviewing the rent.
- Processes for collecting rent and managing arrears.
- Assessing other costs involved in letting a property.
- Options available to landlord and tenant to make changes to an agreement during the tenancy.
- How changes to the agreement should be processed.
- Identifying problems that may arise during a tenancy.

What you can expect from your CIH qualification
Programme participants undertaking the assessments leading to the CIH Certificate in letting and managing residential property at SCQF Level 6, will be registered for the qualification through the CIH Housing Academy as the approved qualification centre.
Candidates must successfully complete all five written assessments and attend all 5 sessions to be considered for the award of the CIH Certificate in letting and managing residential property at SCQF Level 6.
Candidates will have online access to the CIH learner handbook detailing all policies and procedures. Candidates will also have remote access to their CIH assessor for the duration of their studies on the programme.
The issue of certificates to successful candidates can take around 12-14 weeks from their final assessment submission deadline, although every effort will be made by the CIH Awarding Organisation to ensure certificates are issued to candidates as quickly as possible.
