The aim of these online sessions is to support landlords deal with conflict that can arise during a tenancy.
Being a landlord requires many skills, some of which are more straight forward than others. Dealing with difficult situations that can occur during a tenancy is less straightforward and can be a challenge for landlords who are often managing this on their own.
Through this course, we will look at how conflict can arise and how matters can escalate. The course content will be delivered over two sessions:
Session 1: Why tenant issues escalate: Understanding conflict
- Understand how conflict can arise and its impact on tenancy relationships. Learn how to spot triggers and early signs of breakdown and understand why a small issue can turn into a big problem.
Session 2: Communicating with tenants: Preventing and reducing tension
- Find out how active listening skills can help you avoid conflict or prevent it from escalating and explore the benefits of different types of communications.
This course will be further supplemented by another course within the Tooklit called ‘Time for Solutions’ and having completed both courses, you will be able to:
- recognise situations where conflict could arise
- use mediation tools to de-escalate and resolve conflict
- understand how to access mediation should you need to.
You may not be experiencing this situation at present, but attending will ensure you have the skills needed should it arise in the future.

A virtual classroom is a learning environment where participants can interact, communicate, view and discuss material, while working in groups, via an online platform. LAS use Zoom.
